Overview:
As a First‑Year Analyst in Jefferies’ Consumer & Retail (C&R) Investment Banking group, you will work within lean teams and contribute directly to live M&A, financing, and strategic advisory assignments from day one. The role combines deep financial analysis with sector‑specific insight into consumer behaviors, retail dynamics, margin pressures, and category trends across food & beverage, beauty, personal care, lifestyle brands, apparel, specialty retail and more. Analysts are expected to conduct industry and product research and translate evolving C&R market trends into actionable analysis that informs pitches and deal execution.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain financial models, including DCF, comparables, and precedent transaction analyses.
- Support execution of M&A, equity, and debt financing transactions in the Consumer & Retail sector.
- Prepare pitch books, offering memorandums, prospectuses, and management/lender presentations.
- Conduct industry and product research tied to consumer spending trends, category growth, channel shifts, and competitive landscapes.
- Analyze detailed corporate and financial information to support valuation, due diligence, and transaction workstreams.
- Collaborate closely with senior bankers on active deal teams, gaining early exposure to clients and high‑impact deliverables.
Desired Experience:
- Ideally 6 months - 1 year of investment banking or similar (pre/post deal diligence, valuations, deal advisory etc.) experience
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to interpret complex data quickly.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment and work effectively under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, and client‑facing maturity.
- Intellectual curiosity about consumer and retail sector trends—such as e‑commerce shifts, brand innovation, supply chain evolution, and consumer demand patterns.
- Strong academic background with a Bachelor’s degree; finance or accounting helpful but not required.
